Mermaids for a New Little Gal

Good Morning Gals, I am so happy to say that we are going to be grandparents again, and this time it will be a girl! Deakin will have a little sister and that little sister will have as many little quilts as he does.

In the meantime, Paloma loves mermaids, and with Heather Ross reprinting Mendocino, it was an easy theme to go with. I used a nice pattern "Something Positive"  from Villa Rosa Designs that calls for 8 fat quarters and a background. Such a good thing with all the cute lines of fabrics these days that you want to make into something. This pattern goes together easily once you have all your components made, and I think it really is just the perfect size for a baby quilt or a lap quilt 50x50.

I fussy cut some of the fabrics and I like how that gave the blocks a little more emphasis. In doing that, I purchased 1/3 yards of some of the fabrics and that worked out great.

Little mermaids, big mermaids (which will also be the back!) and fish and seahorses in orange, pink, and blue. Off to the quilter today!

  1. Congratulations! Perfect quilt and fabric... love! Ronda had some last night making a Fat Skinny Bag and Kelly is fussy cutting it for her Sandy Toes. Too much good stuff! Can't wait to see what magic Lisa adds to the Mermaids for the new little gal!

  2. Congratulations! You'll have fun sewing for a little girl. Love the quilt.

  3. Adorable! Congrats on the news of the family addition. :)
